First of all, thanks for all the nice (facebook) replies to my last post. I especially liked all the 'NO PRESSURE' messages haha.
So up now is the second part in the "My daily life" series; about where I live!
I will temporary move to another place in two weeks, so thought this had to be done now. I also have test tomorrow so doing this instead of studying seemed like a good plan.
I actually made a room tour video. So if you wanna see me acting awkwardly on video, keep on reading..
At the moment I live in Uji, a city south of Kyoto. My Lonely Planet told me that Uji is known for the high quality green tea they produce; they even call it the Tea Capital of Japan!
I don't drink tea so my plan is to try to convince this town to change their whole production scheme from tea leaves to cacao beans so I could live in the Chocolate (Milk) Capital. And then maybe ask if Johnny Depp will dress up as Willy Wonka one more time and come down here and declare it as such (and maybe marry me if he has the time). I feel like we would have a lot in common here.
I will keep you updated on that.
So I am situated south of Kyoto, and Kyoto University is in the northern part of the city. To get from where I live to the university involves a 15 minute walk to the train station, two trains for about 40 minutes, and then another 15 minute walk to the school.
On the map below you can see which route I take and I've also highlighted where the 'city center' kinda is. That's where the shopping is good, the partying amazing (like I wouldn't know :')) and the karaoke is awesome (yessss).
The fact that I walk about an hour every day (in a hilly area!), means it's okay to not move and just eat for the rest of the day.
And here is where I am at on the map of Japan. I've highlighted just the things I'm sure you would 've heard of: Tokyo, Hiroshima & Fukushima.
And for the people that aren't even sure where Japan is on a world map (I know you guys (Americans) are out there..)

I'm really happy with my room though! It is small (as most accommodation/everything in Japan) but the Japanese have a way of getting everything you need on a small amount of square meters. I'm a very private person so I love not having to share anything. Cooking and eating whenever I want is goodddd. Having a (tiny) bath is heaven. But the best thing of course is not having to wear pants anymore as soon as I get home.
.
So yeah I'm not sure how I got it in my mind that it would be a good idea to catch myself on video but here it is. My first reaction to watching this back was similar to this, but then again; fuck it. I don't really have the possibility (old, slow laptop and no software) or ability (zero skills) to edit a video or anything so I'm giving it to you raw: a one take video of me looking like I'm high on something, unable to find the words I'm looking for and saying '..uhh' a lot. This is your warning:
Nah, you still cool with that? Ok then just press play..
xoxo
+10 points for using tumblr haha!
ReplyDeleteYour heart is in California? A map of everywhere you've traveled would be interesting.
